The word spring cleaning basically refers to cleaning the house thoroughly especially during spring time. After the end of winter, this practice is done during the beginning warm days of spring. The procedure of spring cleaning goes back to the Iranian period “Iranian Norouz” that starts on the first day of spring.
During this time, Iranians start “Khoune tekouni” that means to shake the house so that the house is well organized, new and clean before the New Year. Some people get their furniture; drapes and tapestry changed; they also get their towels and sheets washed during this time. They also make sure their cupboards are well organized, and all the warm clothes are washed thoroughly and kept in place. All the rooms from bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, to the living room, are all cleaned from the scratch.
At this time, a lot of changes are made in the house for the coming New Year. This practice is even followed by the Jews and Greek people and is also spread in Ireland, New Zealand, and North America. Nowadays this practice is so widespread that it is even followed by a lot of people regardless of caste or creed. The products that are needed for spring cleaning are all-purpose cleaners, paper towels, microfiber cloths, dishwasher detergents or liquids, powdered cleaners and laundry detergents. Apart from this, mops for cleaning the floor and for cleaning the tables are needed, brushes, and tool box. Together with knives and screwdrivers, bulbs, even baskets, spray bottles, buckets, broom, and vacuums are also needed. Before starting spring cleaning to be more organized, one should draft a checklist so that things are done perfectly. Following is a sample checklist that is made for spring cleaning:
Every room: Wash doors, ceilings and walls with some good quality detergent. Make sure you vacuum the floor, or dust the blinds, wash the windows and replace the burnt light bulbs. Also, the lamp shades and light fixtures are supposed to be replaced or cleaned.
Kitchen: Make sure you clean the fridge thoroughly both inside and outside, mop the floor after moving the fridge, deeply clean the oven from inside. Also clean the drawers and cabinets that are there in the kitchen.
Living Rooms: Dust all the mirrors, decorative items, furniture, and frames. Get the furniture polished, wash all the cushions and fabric in the room, also make sure you use the vacuum on the carpet to get rid of the dust.
Bedrooms: Get the sheets and pillows washed and changed if possible. Also, get rid of unnecessary items that are stored under the bed.
Bathrooms: wash or replace shower curtains and bath mats, clean and disinfect tubs and showers. Also, make sure all decorative items are cleaned and replaced.
However, there are also different shops and online websites which provide spring cleaning services as well; I think one should make use of these facilities to make their lives easier.
